Dragon boats will once again be racing along the River Weaver when the annual Northwich River Festival returns this summer.
The event – which is organised by Northwich Rotary – is now in its fifth year and is free to attend.
It takes place on Saturday 15th July 2023 and sees teams compete in a series of heats as they paddle their dragon boat to the beat of their drummer.
Martin Fallon, president of Northwich Rotary, said: “We can’t wait for this year’s festival – we’ve looked at how we’ve delivered the event over the last few years and are bringing together all the best bits to create our biggest year yet.
“We’ve moved the event to coincide with Northwich Krazy Races, giving people a whole weekend of family-friendly, free-to-attend fun.
“Each year this event helps us raise money to support local good causes and we’re committed to putting on a show to remember.”
Alongside the dragon boat racing, crowds can enjoy a funfair, delicious food and drink and free street games – with much more still to be announced.
The annual duck race will also take place on the river which will see 2,000 rubber ducks dropped into the River Dane. The first one across the line will win £200 for its lucky ticket holder.
John Walton, who conceived the event back in 2017, said: “Rotary have championed this event and now we have something that’s a firm fixture in the annual events calendar for Northwich.
“I’m proud of the work my fellow Rotarians have put into this event and look forward to seeing the crowds enjoy what’s been put together for 2023.”
Activities will start at 11am, and visitors are advised to arrive early to secure a prime viewing spot.
Entries are now open for teams – and businesses, community groups or even friendship groups are being invited to take part.
