Chester’s Grosvenor Museum is asking for help from residents and race goers.
A new exhibition, entitled ‘Going the Distance: 480 Years of Racing at the Roodee’, is set to run from 20th April until 6th October 2019.
As the racecourse celebrates another milestone in its illustrious history, the exhibition will present objects and images from the Chester Race Company and the Grosvenor Museum to explore the origins and heritage of the oldest racecourse still in operation in Great Britain – if not the world!
Cllr Louise Gittins, cabinet member for communities and wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “This new exhibition is being produced with the Racecourse but we’d like some help.
“The museum is inviting people to donate objects or photographs relating to the racecourse to build up a permanent archive in the museum.
“Some of the donated items will go on display for the duration of this exhibition.”
Cllr Gittins added: “If people are very attached to the objects they will be returned after the exhibition whilst photographs can be scanned.”
The museum is interested in anything from race badges, programmes and photographs to hats and fascinators from the past 480 years.
If you would like to offer any racecourse related items to the museum please get in touch by the end of March.
