Dr Paul Bowen to step aside as chair of NHS ECCCG

Dr Paul Bowen is to step down as chair of NHS Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

Dr Bowen, a GP with McIlvride Medical Practice in Poynton, has been clinical chair of the CCG since it was established in 2013.

He is stepping down to focus on his role as medical director of the Middlewood Partnership, a new organisation bringing together a number of locals GP surgeries.

The Middlewood Partnership includes: Schoolhouse Surgery in Disley, Bollington Medical Centre, McIlvride Medical Practice and Priorslegh Medical Centre – both in Poynton.

The partnership will be operational from next month (April), creating the largest GP practice in Cheshire.

Dr Bowen commented: “I’m proud to have led the CCG since its inception, and of the progress we’ve made.

He added: “I’d like to thank our excellent CCG team and governing body for their incredible dedication to the NHS and our communities, and the patients, carers and volunteers I have met along the way in this inspiring role.”

Clare Watson, chief officer of the four Cheshire CCGs, added: “Paul’s main concern has always been to put the patient at the centre of the health and care system.

“He was instrumental in developing a Caring Together contract that invested an extra £2m in Eastern Cheshire’s 23 GP practices to provide a range of value-added services to support people with long-term conditions and to help patients stay well.

“He has played a crucial role in the development of care communities that are bringing together a wide range of health and social care professionals to build care around people, and he has championed innovation throughout his time at the CCG.”

Dr Bowen will be succeeded from 1st April by Dr Andrew Wilson.

Dr Wilson (pictured) will combine the role with existing duties as clinical chair of NHS South Cheshire CCG.

His priorities will include helping guide the proposed merger of the two CCGs with NHS Vale Royal CCG and NHS West Cheshire CCG.

A partner at Ashfields Primary Care Centre in Sandbach, Dr Wilson joins NHS Eastern Cheshire CCG at a time of significant transformation.

He will oversee the development of plans for two integrated care partnerships, providing joined-up health and social care services in the local authority geographies of Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester.

Dr Wilson said: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been invited to work with NHS Eastern Cheshire CCG, having witnessed its innovative and inclusive culture while collaborating closely with Dr Bowen for more than 10 years.”
