Cheshire West and Chester’s Council’s Public Health Annual Report for 2020 is now published and available online.
Last month an accompanying film, ‘Not on mute: Our response to Covid-19 in Cheshire West and Chester (Part One)’ was launched at the live webcast of the Covid-19 Outbreak Board on 7th July.
The film and written report tell the story of how local communities pulled together to support each other during the pandemic.
The report contains 5 recommendations relating to the following:
• Our future local health protection response
• Support for our residents who continue to be disproportionately impacted by COVID.
• COVID-19 Vaccination Programme.
• Enhanced Data and Intelligence Systems
• Understanding of the Longer-term Impacts of COVID-19 such as Long Covid and mental health
It is a statutory requirement for directors of public health (DsPH) to produce an annual independent report.
Cllr Louise Gittins, leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: ”2020 was a quite exceptional year.
“Working against the odds and tackling the then unknown, the response and interaction between local organisations and the community was brave, remarkable and heart-warming.
“This report and accompanying film record and capture this historic period”
Ian Ashworth, CWAC director of public health, said: “The film and report tell the story of how our residents alongside the council, the NHS, our emergency services, our fantastic voluntary and community sector and local businesses, have all worked together in Cheshire West and Chester during 2020.
”It has been a really challenging year for us all in so many ways. The community response during these very difficult times has been truly amazing.
“This short film captures some of that incredible spirit. Everyone should be very proud of the part they have played”
