Alsager Town Council has selected its new chair.
Cllr Michael Unett took up the role on Tuesday 4th May, having been voted in by fellow councillors.
He said: “I am proud and honoured to have been elected as the chair of Alsager Town Council for 2021-22.”
He thanked councillors for placing their trust in him, in what he said would be a crucial year for the council and the town.
In his first act as chair, he expressed thanks to fellow councillors, council staff, NHS workers and community volunteers for their work during the pandemic.
He made particular reference to those at Alsager Community Support Centre and those involved with the successful vaccine rollout locally.
He commented: “This work and dedication to helping others and serving our community during this most challenging of times really shows Alsager at its very best.”
Cllr Unett announced his charities for the civic year will be Alsager Food Bank, the British Heart Foundation and White Ribbon UK.
He also successfully passed a vote of thanks to retiring chair Cllr Rod Fletcher for his work and for providing a steady hand as chair for the past two years of civic leadership.
Cllr Fletcher was elected chairman of Alsager Town Council on 14th May 2019, and carried out duties with his daughter Kate as consort.
