An appeal aimed at providing women in crisis with an opportunity for self-care has been launched across the North West.
Female-focused organisation Elle for Elle hopes to collect hundreds of shoeboxes filled with beauty, cosmetics and fragrance over the next six weeks to deliver to women spending Christmas in refuges.
Elle for Elle founders Rachel O’Hare and Lynette Page-Collin have won the support of several businesses across the area who will act as drop off points between now and 18th December.
“It’s hoped that the Beauty Shoebox Appeal will give women fleeing domestic abuse the gift of self-care this Christmas,” said Kelsall mum-of-three Lynette.
Fellow mum-of-three Rachel, from Mere, added: “Our children have been filling shoeboxes for years to send away, and we loved the sentiment that a small box filled with goodies can bring so much happiness.”
Lynette added: “We want to recreate that happiness in the refuges we visit, where women are at their very lowest, especially at this very important time of year.
“We hope the Beauty Shoeboxes will give them a feeling self-love again this Christmas.”
New and unused items to be included are:
- Makeup (all types, all shades)
- Nail products
- Hair products (oils, serum, treatments etc)
- Skin care
- Fragrance
- Bath and body products
- Gift set contents
