The Alderley Edge in Bloom group has won its first ever gold award in the 2018 RHS North West In Bloom competition.
It’s quite an achievement in only the group’s third ever entry.
Alderley Edge In Bloom volunteer Kelvin Briggs attended the North West In Bloom award ceremony last Friday (2nd November) at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre and collected the prestigious award on behalf of the group.
Kelvin commented: “What a thrilling award ceremony!
“Just to be there with 540 other Bloom group volunteers was inspirational and the gold award means such a lot to us!
“All the many hours of effort planting, watering, weeding and litter picking have been so worthwhile.
“The village looks tidy and colourful and so many people have complimented us on our efforts.”
Group Secretary Christine Munro said “Winning a gold award is a great accolade for all the hard work put in by our dedicated volunteers.
“They are a fantastic bunch who are always ready to put in that extra effort when it is needed.
“But the real success for us this year is the number of additional volunteers who have joined our group.
“With their help we have been able to achieve so much, making our village litter free and bright and colourful throughout the year.”
Christine added: “We are so lucky to have support from Alderley Edge Parish Council, the village traders and residents.”
Recent grant awards from the Manchester Airport Community Fund and the Alderley Edge Institute Trust are set to help the group purchase more equipment.
In addition, crowdfunding activities will help the group purchase more planters and plants to help to further beautify Alderley Edge in 2019.
Blooming well done to Alderley Edge in Bloom!
