Community leaders in Buckingham are aiming for the top prize in the Best Kept Village Competition this year, and locals are being invited to help support their town’s entry.
The competition encourages communities to collaborate and work together to make their surroundings more attractive for both residents and visitors.
The annual contest began in 1957, and the county town will be competing in the Michaelmas Cup for places with a population of more than 3,000 people.
A spokesperson for the town council said: “We are thrilled to be taking part again this year after a successful performance in 2024, finishing in second place – just two points behind Marlow!
“This is our town’s best result yet, and we are determined to do even better in 2025.”
They added: “One area where we believe we can improve is in engaging local businesses to help showcase our town’s beauty and efforts.
“This year, we want to put extra focus on incorporating floral displays, and we would love to receive support from Buckingham’s fantastic businesses.”
Those who are planning to create a floral display this summer – including hanging baskets, window boxes, planters, or other window decorations- are encouraged to share their plans with Buckingham Town Council to be featured in our application.
The deadline for submitting the town’s application is the end of April, with judging taking place between the beginning of June and mid-July.
To be included in the application and town map, there is a form for participants to complete.
“Together, we can make Buckingham even more beautiful and closer-knit as we strive to bring home the top prize,” the council spokesperson added.
