Buckingham celebrates spectacular Christmas 2025 light switch on

Community leaders in Buckingham have hailed the success of this year’s Christmas lights switch on event, which took place on 27th November 2026.

Organisers at Buckingham Town Council said residents and visitors of all ages gathered to mark the start of the festive season with an evening full of entertainment, community spirit and holiday cheer.

The spectacle featured a busy itinerary – including young performers from Stagecoach, festive melodies from the Great Horward Silver Band and songs by the Bucks Gospel Fellowship Choir.

The evening also included a heartfelt speech from the town mayor Cllr Fran Davies and a rousing announcement bellowed by the town crier, adding to the sense of occasion as the lights were switched on.

There was also a visit from Santa – as well as stilt walkers, fairies and elves who delighted attendees and brought Market Hill to life with seasonal charm and whimsy.

The festive market offered hot food, mulled wine, mince pies and an array of festive goods.

The year’s Buckingham Christmas card competition winners were also celebrated – with prizes and certificates presented to the top entrants.

The winning card designs are now available to purchase from Buckingham Tourist Information Centre, with all proceeds from sales donated to the mayor’s charities.

The town is now looking forward to a programme of seasonal events over the coming weeks.

“It was wonderful to see so many people at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on,” said Cllr Robin Stuchbury, chair of the town centre and events committee.

“Of course, none of this would have been possible without careful planning, funding and organisation by the town centre events committee, working alongside the officer team and the green spaces team.

“Together, they delivered a fantastic community event that everyone can enjoy for free with family and friends, while also supporting local traders and boosting the local economy.”
