“Please get on your bike for Duchenne!”

A call for 100 cyclists to ride 200 miles through Cheshire, over the course of two days, is being launched by Transforming Lives and Duchenne UK.

The charity event will take place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July with riders being challenged to cycle 100 miles each day, with a stopover at Keele University, while raising over £100,000 for muscular dystrophy charity Duchenne UK.

The Dash is open for both experienced riders and people new to cycling. The route will start and finish in Goostrey and lead the participants through the most beautiful parts of Cheshire, with the only request that they endeavour to raise £1000, with all money raised going to Duchenne UK.

“Our charity, Transforming Lives, has been established to create really special events that provide VIP treatment for participants and generate meaningful contributions for charity,” said Catriona Marshall, who is organising the event with the support of her husband and fellow cycling friends.

“I’m delighted that our inaugural event will be on our ‘home turf’ with the Cheshire Dash, a cycling challenge to raise money to find a cure for Duchenne, a killer of young boys.”

“I did a similar ride for Duchenne UK, from London to Paris in 24hrs, and was so impressed with the charity that I decided to bring the event home to the North West.

“While cycling 200 miles in two days is a challenge, it’s for such an important cause that we are calling on people to join us in our efforts to raise £100,000. Please sign up and help us.”

All participants will be supported with a training programme that shows guided rides every few weeks between now and July when the event takes place.

Registration for the Cheshire dash costs £100 and this includes overnight accommodation, food on the route, an evening meal, bike support including ride captains, first aid and mechanics, a jersey as well as a medal and certificate.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most common fatal genetic disease diagnosed in childhood.

The disease almost always affects boys, and they tend to be diagnosed before the age of five.  There are around 2,500 patients in the UK and an estimated 300,000 sufferers worldwide.

Sponsors of the event include Bentley Manchester who will provide the lead vehicles and The Cheshire Dining Experience who will provide the catering – plus Yodel who will provide logistics support and Jacamo men’s clothing.
