Shares

Players at Wilmslow Hockey Club paid their respects to HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, this weekend following his death on Friday morning.

A spokesperson for the club said: “The Duke of Edinburgh was a keen sports fan, and even captained his school hockey team to great success.

“Over the weekend, Wilmslow Hockey Club paid their respects to His Royal Highness.”

The tribute included a poignant honour guard and a temporary written tribute etched into the snow on the astroturf pitch.

The club’s spokesperson added: “The thoughts of everyone involved with Wilmslow Hockey Club are with Her Majesty The Queen and the royal family, following the announcement of his death, and are pleased to show our respect to the ‘grandfather of the nation’ any way we can.”
