Captain Sir Tom Moore in hospital with Covid-19

Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised millions of pounds for the NHS during the UK’s first lockdown, has been admitted to hospital after testing positive for coronavirus.

In a tweet from the veteran’s official Twitter account, his daughter Hannah said he had been taken into hospital earlier today (31/01/21) for help with his breathing.

He is not thought to be in intensive care,  but has been treated for pneumonia over the last few weeks.

PM Boris Johnson tweeted: “You’ve inspired the whole nation, and I know we are all wishing you a full recovery.”

Sir Tom has not yet received a Covid-19 vaccine due to the course of medication he was receiving for his pneumonia treatment.

The Army veteran, who lives in Marston Moretaine, came to prominence last year when he walked 100 laps of his garden prior to his 100th birthday. He was knighted by the Queen in July.
