Organisers posted the following statement on Facebook:
We thought long and hard about holding The Show in 2020, as the situation is ever changing, and no one knows what the official sanctions will be when The Show comes round this year.
Although we’re luckier than most that we hold our show at the end of the season when things will look much clearer, It would have been easy for us to decide to postpone The Show for a year.
For every month that passes, our financial commitments grow and our volunteers have to self isolate and look after family and friends.
But we thought about our supply chain – tentage companies who survive off traditional shows, our traders who need the business, and mostly our visitors and the community.
We also thought about the resilient nature of this old show, and this community, and how since 1885 we’ve hardly needed to cancel any shows in our history.
We strongly feel that by the end of a hard summer for everyone, we want to be able to offer our community an amazing, great value day out, as we always have.
We will therefore, do everything in our power to put The Show on this year, based on Government guidelines at the time, and the safety of our community.
If you can stay loyal to us, keep booking the trade stalls, pre book tickets when they go on sale, sponsor us etc, we promise that if The Show does get cancelled for reasons beyond our control, we’ll refund any monies we’ve received from our small showground traders (subject to any contractual agreements) and any tickets that you’ve bought.
All profits from The Show have always been invested in the following year, but we’ve worked hard to keep enough money to be able to this.
We will keep you informed, but in the meantime, please like our page, share our posts, and keep booking trade stalls.
We’ll be here, posting pictures of random guinea pigs and donkeys!
