Chester MP Chris Matheson has welcomed news that Chester will be included in a major digital infrastructure investment programme.
CityFibre, the UK’s third national digital infrastructure platform, has included Chester as one of 36 locations to benefit from additional roll-out of full fibre.
The initiative is part of the £4bn Gigabit City Investment Programme which will reach up to 8 million premises.
Mr Matheson says this will provide Chester with a future-proof network to support the digital needs of homes, businesses, next generation mobile networks and public services.
He commented: “I am very pleased to see that Chester has been included in this programme.
“Over the past five years I have been supporting constituents across Chester with connectivity issues and fighting for a full rollout which includes every home and premises in the area.
“I have been pleased with the progress we have made, with far fewer constituents requiring help with these problems in recent years.”
Mr Matheson added: “Connectivity is absolutely essential both to businesses and to people in their everyday lives.
“I welcome this announcement, which I know will also be great news for the many people across Chester for whom the best possible digital service is absolutely essential.”
