Over the weekend of 7th – 9th July, four dads from Wrenbury cycled the iconic ‘Coast to Coast’ route from Workington in Cumbria to Sunderland, via the Lake District National Park and within view of Scarfell Pike (the highest mountain in England).
Tom Robinson, Oliver Caunce, Josh Walker and Scott Heirene, plus support driver Scott Caunce, took on the gruelling challenge, following several months of training.
It involved cycling 135 miles in 27-degree heat and the cyclists climbed more than 10,000 ft to help to raise funds for local children’s charity, The Wingate Centre.
Together, the Wrenbury dads have raised over £3,000 for the charity which is devoted to brightening the lives of children with disabilities from the local area and beyond through respite holidays and sport and recreational activities.
Tom Robinson said: “I am privileged to live in a village where the community pulls together to create very special moments in time to help great causes.
“One I couldn’t resist taking part in was to raise funds for The Wingate Centre, a truly incredible local charity.
“The opportunities and support that they provide for children with disabilities are exceptional and we were very proud to be able to fundraise for such a worthy, local cause.”

First opened in 1988, The Wingate Centre offers specialist residential accommodation and recreational activities to children and young people with physical and learning difficulties and complex care needs.
