Congleton is set to light up for the festive season this Friday (28 November) with an evening of music, entertainment and family fun.
The town’s annual Christmas lights celebration will take place from 4pm, with the big switch on itself taking place at 6pm.
The festivities include:
- Main stage performances from Rode Hall Silver Band, Shakermaker and Harry Jones
- Community stage performances by local schools and groups performing on Swan Bank
- A lantern parade – meeting at 5.15pm on Mill Street, with the parade setting off at 5.40pm to lead Santa’s sleigh to the Christmas tree
- The town’s Christmas lights being switched on at 6pm
- Santa’s grotto in the town hall
- Stalls and shops – more than 40 food, craft and community stalls plus fairground rides
With seasonal window displays across the town, and more than 100 Christmas trees and festive lights throughout the town centre every day from 3pm–11pm each night, Congleton promises to be a winter wonderland for residents and visitors alike.
“Congleton’s Christmas celebrations are a testament to our town’s community spirit,” said town mayor Robert Brittain.
“From the lantern parade to Santa’s grotto and all the lights in between, this event brings joy to everyone and showcases our fantastic local traders and performers.
“It’s the perfect way to kick off the festive season.”
Bosses have also ensured the event caters for people with disabilities, and have included a quiet zones, accessible toilets and a live-stream of the main stage inside the town hall.
Road closures
People are being advised that there will be road closures in place on High Street, Mill Street and Swan Bank from 12–10pm to enable the event to go ahead safely.
