Seventeen teams of golfers took part in a successful charity golf day event at Shrigley Hall Hotel near Macclesfield recently.
They raised over £3,000 to help provide financial education to children.
DebtAware, the specialist education arm of the national Debt Advice Foundation, will use the funds raised to support its ‘Money Skills for Life’ programme in primary schools.
The programme, which has been devised by children for children, operates in around 160 schools in Lancashire, but additional resources are required in order to roll out the teaching into Cheshire and across the UK.
The golfers endured blustery conditions for the competition.
Nearest the pin was Chris Howells, while longest drive was won by Martin Bennett.
Organiser Chris Langrick commented: “It was a great turnout and we are thrilled with the initial money raised – it is going towards financial literacy in the young which we are passionate about helping to develop.”
Brian Souter, education manager at DebtAware, also spoke about the charity’s work and progress made since launch four years ago.
He called for help in opening doors in Cheshire schools and got a great response from golfers with a keen interest in their own children’s financial education.
