Historic castle to host terrifying tales this spooky season

Families can look forward to a range of events taking place this autumn at Tamworth Castle.

Cllr Lewis Smith, from Tamworth Borough Council, said: “Halloween is soon approaching and now is the time to start booking your tickets to enjoy a range of spooky events at Tamworth Castle.

“The castle is the perfect setting to embrace the scary and have a fun time with your friends and family. Who knows, perhaps some castle ghosts may join the fun!”

  • Halloween week (Saturday 26th October – Sunday 3rd November)

Activities will be witch themed – including a witch trail for children and information about the historical perceptions of witches and witchcraft.

Children are encouraged to come in their favourite Halloween costume.

Between 30th October and 2nd November, there will be a range of spooky stories and ghostly goings on around the castle.

  • Thursday 24th and Friday 25th October

On 24th and 25th October there will be immersive ghost walks for over 16s at 6.30pm or 8.30pm. These will last about an hour and a half, and must be booked in advance.

  • Friday 26th October

There will be a talk by Brian Hoggard on protection against witchcraft – including the chance to see apotropaic marks (ritual protection symbols to protect against evil spirits) on some of the stonework at Tamworth Castle. Tickets for this even tmust be booked in advance.

  • Saturday 27th October

Starting at 8pm, there will be an original one-man performance of ‘Confessions of Sweeny Todd – Don’t Go into The Cellar’ by Jonathan Goodwin in a show directed by Gary Archer. Tickets must be booked in advance.

  • Sunday 28th October and Sunday 3rd November

There will be witch-themed watercolour workshops led by professional storyteller Maria Credali where participants can find out all about an astonishing array of witches in folklore and fables whilst they paint. Tickets must be booked in advance.

  • Saturday 2nd November

There will be an opportunity to visit the castle after dark, before the annual free-of-charge firework display at 7pm. There will also be a funfair and food stalls, which open from 5pm.

  • Sunday 10th November

Visitors can watch the Alfred Hitchcock silent film ‘The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog’ accompanied by live music from Minima Music. Tickets can be booked online.
