The Wine School of Cheshire has added The Courthouse in Knutsford to its list of premium venues around Cheshire for hosting wine tasting events

The Courthouse in Knutsford has been revealed as the latest venue for The Wine School of Cheshire, adding to existing locations in Chester (Restaurant 1539 at Chester Racecourse and The Chester Grosvenor) and Macclesfield (CaféBar Arighi at Arighi Bianchi).

Steeped in history, the former crown court building on Toft Road was left empty in 2010 when the Ministry of Justice moved judicial proceedings to courts in Crewe.

Scroll forward to 2017 and brothers Oliver and Dominic Heywood of Flat Cap Hotels restored the venue as a quirky restaurant and events venue, with hotel rooms more recently added to complete the revival.

And now, The Wine School of Cheshire has made The Courthouse its Knutsford home.

Wine school proprietor Richard Smith commented: “If these walls could talk…!

“I’m absolutely delighted to add The Courthouse to our collection of superb wine school venues and can’t wait to welcome guests to wine school tastings there.

“The courtroom has become the classroom – and our ‘pupils’ are invited to be the jury!

“Of course at wine school we wouldn’t expect everyone to ‘reach a verdict upon which they’re all agreed’ – that is precisely the beauty of finding the right wine match.

“There are around 10,000 different grape varieties in the world so there really is a perfect wine for everyone and I hope to help our guests find it.”

Richard explained: “All of our wine tasting events focus on food and wine matching: we’ll be featuring hand-crafted canapés from The Courthouse kitchen at our April and June tastings.

“From late summer a new event, exclusive to Knutsford, will be launching: ‘Dinner at The Courthouse’ which will feature a more substantial menu with matched wines… but I promise not to include porridge on the menu!”

Tastings at The Courthouse begin with Spanish wines on 11th April which is already fully booked.

There are still a few spaces remaining for the summer pairing event on Thursday 13th June.

Richard added: “We look forward to welcoming you, while you ‘examine the evidence’ and promise you’ll enjoy ‘serving time’ with us.”

This is one ‘call to the bar’ that will prove hard to resist! See you in court!
