Plans for new micro-pub and coffee shop approved

A new coffee shop and micro-pub is due to open in a former florist shop in Ellesmere Port.

Cheshire West and Chester Council approved an application by The Coach House to convert the former Secret Garden florist on Chester Road in Little Sutton into a business selling coffee as well as hot and cold bar snacks like cakes and pies.

It would also sell alcoholic drinks from the afternoon into the evening.

Plans say the business will also provide a takeaway service for hot drinks and double as a bottle shop.

The applicants stated they would play background music and have occasional live music.

The plans are set to create two full time and two part-time jobs, with propped opening hours of 9am to midnight, Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays.

Concerns were raised by a neighbour about the potential noise impact of the new premises, but the application was supported by a noise impact assessment which planners found would not have a significant adverse impact.

Recommending approval, a planning officer’s report, said: “Although the proposal would change use, it is considered that the new use as a coffee shop/micro pub/bottle shop would not harm the vitality or viability of the centre and an active shop frontage would continue.

“It is also considered that the new use of the unit would be consistent with the scale and function of the retail centre.”
