Six places in Cheshire for a farm-fresh milkshake

Shares

Farmers across Cheshire work all year round to make sure we’ve always got nutritious food and drink available, and milk is one of the most nutritious things you can have.

When it’s paired with a sweet syrup, you’ve got a great treat – so it’s great to see a number of our local farmers diversify by selling fresh milk and milkshakes directly from their farms.

Here are seven places in Cheshire where you can pick up fresh milk or a milkshake, along with other tasty treats:

The Milk Shack –> Chance Hall Lane, Congleton

The Milk Shack is run by Halton Farms. Using the power of the Milk Bot machine, customers can choose from pasteurised milk, milkshakes, cheese, eggs, cakes, butter and many other goodies. There are more than 500 cows at Chance Hall Farm, and the team think having the Milk Shack on site is a great opportunity for them to engage with the public and show them the farm. They are extremely passionate about animal welfare and do everything in their power to keep their cows happy and healthy – they even have a special podcast all about life on the farm.

The Little Cow Shed –> Davenport Lane, Brereton (near Holmes Chapel)

The Little Cow Shed’s milk comes from the herd you’ll see grazing in the nearby field. It is pasteurised in the micro-dairy on the farm and because it isn’t homogenised, the cream rises to the top (so give it a gentle shake before you pour!) You can also pick up a coffee or a hot chocolate, or even an ice cream. There is also a hot food hatch which is open at weekends. It’s all conveniently situated opposite Brereton Heath Nature Reserve.

The Milk House –> Marbury Road, Comberbach (near Northwich)

You can get raw milk fresh seven days a week from the vending machine, near Northwich. They have about 160 cows, and 100 young stock on the farm, and the milk must be good, as The Milk House has been visited by Manchester City player (and well-known milk fan) Erling Haaland. The owl are free ranging, and graze the fields nearby and down by Budworth Mere. It’s also situated near to Marbury County Park and the Anderton Boat Lift so there is plenty nearby to keep families occupied on a day out.

Bidlea Dairy –> Twemlow Lane, Holmes Chapel

Bidlea Dairy, just outside Holmes Chapel, offers its customers milk, cream, ice cream and butter which is all produced and processed on-site. Their herd of over 300 Holstein-Friesian cows’ food is grown in the Cheshire countryside either by the Brown family who run the farm or by their carefully selected providers. Customers sitting on the farm’s veranda will even get a view of Jodrell Bank while they enjoy their milkshake!

Davies Dairy –> Back Lane, Ashley (near Altrincham)

Davies Dairy serves ‘moolicious’ freshly pasteurised whole milk and milkshakes straight from their family dairy herd. Davies Dairy milkshakes and other treats are available seven days a week from their self service vending machine on the farm. In fact it is so popular they have had to add another. You can also pick up cheese, eggs and jam there. Each week they offer a variety of special flavours, to accompany regular favourites like strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. Davies Dairy is a small family run farm with a herd of free range Holstein Friesian, Brown Swiss and Dairy Shorthorn Cows. They are a father and son team, being the third and fourth generation of farmers at Back Lane Farm.

Mootrition –> Huntington Hall Farm, near Chester

Mootrition is the newest addition to the herd, opening in autumn 2023. Their vending machines are based at Huntington Hall Farm, just outside Chester. Their milk bar has fresh milk, with six flavours of fresh milkshake as well as coffee made with fresh milk from their dairy herd. Mootrition is open 24/7 and regularly has a range of different special flavours to choose from.
