Northwich River Festival 2018 promises new and exciting events

Following our recent article revealing that plans for Northwich River Festival 2018 are rapidly taking shape, the event’s organisers have been in touch with yet more exciting details.

The Northwich River Festival will be based at Barons Quay and the surrounding area on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, Northwich Rotary Club are delighted to share details about the exciting new spectacles taking place this year.

In addition to the return of the Dragon Boat Challenge on Saturday there will also be the Home Built Raft Racing Competition being held on the Sunday.

For this new element, teams of six (in fancy dress) are invited to build a raft and compete in race heats between Town Bridge and Barons Quay. Full details on the event website.

Additionally, this year will see two open air evening concerts taking place as part of the festival.

On Saturday there is Party in the Park featuring ABBA NOW supported by Heart and Soul providing an opportunity to put on your dancing shoes and flares and party the night away.

Sunday evening will see Proms in the Park featuring the Vale Royal Youth Orchestra, which is comprised of talented young musicians from the local area.

Welsh soprano Rhian-Carys Jones will be singing a mix of classical and operatic music – bring your flags for Rule Britannia and sing along!

Both concerts are ticketed and will go ahead whatever the weather. Children are welcome.

Concert-goers are welcome to bring fold up chairs and picnics, however there will also be food and drink available on site.

The concerts will be held at River Park and doors will open at 6.30pm, with concerts ending at around 10pm (assuming we can persuade Northwich Rotary Club members to step away from the dance floor by then!)

Chairman of the Northwich River Festival, John Walton said: “The Northwich River Festival 2018 is a Northwich Rotary Club led event in conjunction with our partners.

“It is a community event for the people of Northwich and the surrounding areas. There is no charge to come down and watch the daytime events.

“Building on the success of last year the raft races and concerts are new innovations for 2018 and a lot of work is going on to make the whole weekend a great success.

“Any monies raised over the weekend will split between the Alzheimer’s Society, the RNLI and Northwich Rotary Charities.”
