A new nationwide survey has revealed that Macclesfield is firmly on the rise when it comes to being entrepreneurial and growing wealth.
The town secured top 10 places in league tables showing the ‘most entrepreneurial’ places and those with ‘growing affluence’ in the UK 2019 Vitality Index.
The report measures Britain’s largest towns and cities outside of London and uses multiple datasets relating to the different aspects of an area’s economic vitality.
Macclesfield is ranked second in the ‘most entrepreneurial’ category – up from equal eighth in 2018.
The town also sealed third place in the 2019 table of ‘growing affluence’ – up from 10th last year.
Macclesfield is ranked number one in the North West for both of these categories.

The UK Vitality Index provides a comprehensive assessment of the health of the local economies of the UK’s 66 main regional towns and cities.
It identifies which locations are best placed to support economic growth, new jobs and new business expansion.
Cheshire East Council’s executive director for place, Frank Jordan commented: “This report is excellent recognition of the entrepreneurial spirit, economic vitality and potential of Macclesfield.
“The vitality index identifies which locations are best placed to support future economic growth and provide opportunities for businesses to expand over the coming year ahead.
“It is no surprise that Macclesfield has been recognised as strongly placed.”
