Mid Cheshire SUP (stand up paddle-boarding) held a Santa Paddle event on Saturday, much to the enjoyment of passers-by who observed the spectacle on the River Weaver in Northwich.
In all, 20 paddlers (including four instructors and 16 members) dressed up as Santa, reindeer, elves and even Scrooge!
They met at Hunt’s Lock for the festive firtle, which was also the group’s first paddle expedition since the second national lockdown restrictions were lifted.
MCSUP representative Brian Cadwallader told us: “The socially distanced Santa Paddle from Hunt’s Lock to Anderton Boat Lift spread Christmas cheer along the River Weaver and it was lovely to see so many people enjoying the nice weather, waving, cheering and ‘HO-HO-HO-ing’ as we paddled by.”
MCSUP is an ASI accredited stand up paddle-boarding school, based in Winsford.
MCSUP has adopted part of the River Weaver from Winsford to Newbridge in partnership with the Canal and River Trust, ensuring that both the river and its wildlife are cared for all year round.
Founded in 2012, its instructors are all Academy of Surfing trained and part of a worldwide ASI team.
The club offers tasters sessions and improver sessions – if you are interested please get in touch via email (midcheshsup@gmail.com).
