Making ‘The Village Green’ in Alderley Edge

Alderley Edge, Cheshire

Self-described “Northern lass” Ashley (originally from Burnley, but now hailing from Prestbury) is the owner of The Village Green – a new shop on South Street in Alderley Edge.

It looks adorable (we can’t wait to have a proper look) and is due to open early next month.

Ashley – who lives with husband-to-be Rik, daughter Hayden, dog Sandy and two cheeky rabbits – was previously a beauty therapist.

Like many, lockdown provided Ashley with an opportunity to re-evaluate her priorities and what she wants from life.

From there, the germ of an idea began to grow into Ashley’s vision of an eco-living store.

She officially launched the business last year, mainly offering refills online via home delivery.

It’s been growing so well that branching out with a permanent store and increased product offering became the obvious next step.

Ashley said: “I wanted a shop that had character and we could make our own.

“The shed is exactly that – it has been a labour of love but it looks just how I imagined.

“I feel I have brought life to a previously old, sad looking building.”

And it truly has been a labour of love for Ashley and Rik, who’ve been working tirelessly to transform the building.

“It has been a crazy busy time,” said Ashley.

“Rik and I have painted every inch of the building, upcycled old benches outside, painted fence panels, fixed a leaky roof, sourced incredible new products… the list goes on!”

From what we’ve heard, customers can expect to find a fabulous little store that seeks to promote a more sustainable way of life.

They’ll find lots of organic fresh fruit and veg, organic pantry staples, a refillable household cleaning range, sustainable and vegan health and beauty products and reusable cups and bottles.

With so many gorgeous things to choose from, we couldn’t resist asking Ashley which her favourite product is.

“Oooh that’s a toughie.”

We told her she could only choose one – however, she paid no attention to that! (But then, why would you, when the product range is so tempting?)

“I have to say the product I can’t live without is my Upcircle facial serum.

“… and, erm, my organic pasta!”

The Village Green

The Village Green is all about helping people shop in an eco-friendly and sustainable way.

The new store combines all of the products Ashley and her family use themselves to make their everyday routine less wasteful, and a little more sustainable.

Everything they sell is tried, tested and adored by them, so they can make it simple and affordable for everyone to make some small changes too.

They try to celebrate other local small businesses at every opportunity and each product they stock is thoughtfully sourced from only the best growers, makers and creators.

The store’s range is currently available via the website offering a click and collect service and also local home delivery via an emission-free e-bike.

The plan is to open the doors to the shop on 1st September to welcome everyone in!
