Macclesfield Remembrance services 2024

Preparations are underway for Macclesfield’s 2024 Remembrance services.

 

Remembrance Sunday – parade and service

From 10.25am, the parade will march from behind Macclesfield Town Hall via Brunswick Street, Market Place and Mill Street to arrive at Park Green Cenotaph in time for a two-minute silence at 11am.

The wreath laying ceremony will be followed by a service of Remembrance.

At the end of the service, the parade will re-form and march back, past the front of the town hall where the mayor will take a salute.

Residents are invited to gather at Park Green Cenotaph for the service.

The town council has advised there will be road closures in place for both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

Road closures – Remembrance Sunday (Sunday 10th November, from 8am until midday)

– Brunswick Street

– Unicorn Gateway

– Market Place; affecting access to Churchside and Church Street

– Chestergate (between Churchill Way and Market Place)

– Mill Street; affecting access to Castle Street, Queen Victoria Street (bus station), Duke Street

– Roe Street,

– Park Green; affecting Park Lane and Parsonage Street

– Park Street

– Mill Lane to junction with the Silk Road

– Sunderland Street where it approaches Park Green

 

Armistice Day – two minute silence

In remembrance of those who made sacrifices in past wars, people will gather in the Market Place outside Macclesfield Town Hall to observe a two-minute silence at 11am.

The town council has advised there will be road closures in place for both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

Road closures – Armistice Day (Monday 11th November, from 10am)

– Market Place at Chestergate and Jordangate: barriers will close at 10am instead of 11am
