Johnny Vegas to bring his unique ‘glampsite’ to Derbyshire

Johnny Vegas is bringing his unique ‘glampsite’ to Melbourne Hall in Derbyshire.

Following the success of his appearance at the inaugural ‘Live At Melbourne Hall’ event series, Vegas decided the venue would be the ideal host for his Field of Dreams campsite.

Field of Dreams offers a unique glamping (glamorous camping) experience.

Guests can stay in a range of lovingly restored and converted vehicles – including Patricia the bus, a German fire truck, an American School Bus and a classic Citroen camper.

The Channel 4 series ‘Johnny Vegas: Carry On Glamping’ will follow the setting up and running of his premier campsite experience when it rolls into its new Derbyshire home.

The show will also document a comedy evening, compered by Johnny, within Melbourne Hall’s walled garden on Sunday 11th September.

As well as this, a film night is being organised on Thursday 15th September to showcase one of Vegas’ favourite movies along with a Q&A session.

Having performed during the Live At Melbourne Hall series in May, Johnny approached the hall’s owner Lord Kerr with the idea of bringing the Field of Dreams to the grounds of the stately home.

Both agreed it was the perfect location for the pop-up site.

After their Yorkshire glampsite was hailed a roaring success in 2021, with bookings aplenty, ambitions for a bigger site meant Johnny needed to loo elsewhere for a venue.

This led Johnny and Bev to undertake a search to find a new home for the eclectic collection of repurposed vehicles they share with Jim and Claire.

The new six-part series will follow Johnny and his long-suffering assistant Bev as they set their sights on developing their business.

It’s understood moving the business to Melbourne Hall has given Johnny a number of new ideas.

He’s got his eyes on a boat which will be converted into a stylish glamping pied-a-terre which will take up a prime position beside the lake.

There’ll also be a helicopter joining the line-up of iconic vehicles – which will be positioned across two sites, both within a short walk of the pool and walled gardens.

The pop-up site will be at Melbourne Hall for one month as a test run, before hopefully setting up a permanent home there next year.

About Melbourne Hall

Derbyshire’s Melbourne Hall has established itself this summer as one the East Midlands’ premier venues for summer entertainment.

Eschewing the trend for sprawling festivals catering to thousands, Live at Melbourne Hall offered a boutique approach – which bosses say is more in keeping with the stately home and its iconic gardens.

The events welcomed comedic talent Julian Clary, Strictly legend Anton Du Beke, celebrity chefs like Gennaro Contaldo and many more.

Melbourne Hall stands in an idyllic setting, and is home to one of the most treasured historical gardens in the country.

It is the best surviving early 18th century English garden in the manner of le Notre.

The house has a chequered and unusually well-documented history, and all centuries from the 16th to the 20th have left their mark on it.

The hall remains a lived-in family home for Lord and Lady Ralph Kerr, and Lord Ralph is a direct descendant of Sir John Coke who made Melbourne Hall his home in 1629.
