Find out where you can park for free in Derbyshire this Christmas

Council car parks in part of Derbyshire are set to be free to use for the whole of December, bosses have announced.

Erewash Borough Council is launching its free car parking initiative to encourage people to visit the high street and to shop locally over the festive season.

This year, they say they have made the scheme as easy to use as possible.

It will be available for all of December, so residents won’t have to worry about going out on a specific day to take advantage of the offer.

“I’m pleased to say that free Christmas car parking will be back in Erewash this December,” said  Cllr Curtis Howard, lead member for planning and regeneration at the authority.

“In fact, it’s bigger, easier, and cheaper than ever before. This year, parking in council-owned car parks in Ilkeston, Long Eaton, and Sandiacre will be free for the whole of December.

“Every day of the week, all day, starting on 1st December. No more messing about with it only being in specific ones or on certain days.”

He added: “For the first time, free parking will be all day, not only after 10am like before.

“This year parking at Long Eaton train station – which has different fares from the other car parks – will also be free, again for the first time.

“It’s good for shoppers, it’s good for workers, and it’s good for local businesses.”
