You may think that our infrequent snowfall means that your car really doesn’t need winter tyres.
A test by Tyresafe recently looked at stopping distances in cars fitted with summer tyres versus those fitted with winter tyres.
The test was done with both cars travelling at 62mph and air temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.
The car with winter tyres stopped 5 metres ahead of the car still wearing its summer tyres – and if you threw in some frost or black ice, the difference would be even more dramatic.
Here’s a few things to think about before you say yes or no to changing to winter tyres.
