Congleton in Bloom was delighted to receive news from RHS Britain in Bloom that it is one of 10 large towns named in the national finals of Britain in Bloom 2020.
Finalists are put forward to the national final based on their progress regionally and compete across 11 different categories – including village, town and coastal.
Congleton is representing the North West in the prestigious competition, and will be visited by RHS judges in August as they vie for a medal, a category win and to be named ‘Champion of Champions’.
The other towns battling it out for national glory this year are:
- Ballymena, Ulster
- Boston, East Midlands
- Chesham, Thames & Chilterns
- Colwyn Bay, Wales
- Dunstable, Anglia
- Exmouth, South West
- Mirfield, Yorkshire
- Penrith, Cumbria
- Royal Tunbridge Wells, South East
Commenting on the news, Cllr David Brown, who chairs Congleton in Bloom, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be back in the finals and able to showcase Congleton to the rest of Britain.
“We have gained a lot of knowledge from our previous experiences in the national finals which should help us.
“The judging criteria has changed, and there is now a greater emphasis on community involvement and environmental responsibility.
“This is good news for Congleton and plays to our strengths!”
Cllr Brown, who received an ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award from the North West in Bloom committee last year, added: “The community in Congleton is brilliant.
“We have nine fantastic ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ teams, and another six groups that are considering entering areas that they look after.
“In Bloom is a great community group – and one that welcomes all. There is a role for everyone in helping to make Congleton greener and cleaner and we all benefit from the results!”
Congleton in Bloom volunteers will be starting their regular first Saturday of the month Town Tidy events from 1st March.
