Voters in Macclesfield Hurdsfield can select one candidate to represent them on Cheshire East Council.
Macclesfield Hurdsfield candidates:
- Sarah Bennett-Wake (Labour)
- Steve Broadhurst (Liberal Democrats)
- Barrie Malpas (Conservatives)

Sarah Bennett-Wake (Labour)
I have lived in Hurdsfield for almost 15 years with my wife Stella.
I currently work as a teaching assistant in a local school and have had a long career in community education.
I was elected unopposed to Macclesfield Town Council in 2019 and served as mayor during the Covid-19 pandemic.
During lockdown I supported the most vulnerable in Hurdsfield, providing a hot meal service.
I believe in persistence and people power. I am proud that derelict houses in Hurdsfield have be refurbished following my consistent pressure.
I worked alongside Cllr Steve Carter for five years and I feel he was my greatest teacher.
After his untimely death, I would be honoured to represent Hurdsfield residents at both Cheshire East Council and Macclesfield Town Council.

Steve Broadhurst (Liberal Democrats)
I have lived in Hurdsfield for nearly 20 years and was a councillor here until 2013, and I return as a local candidate for election to Cheshire East.
I believe in a local community where the residents, businesses and visitors have the space and resources to thrive.
I watch with dismay the decline of our town centre and the poor decisions on spending, where ‘mistakes’ and errors of judgement are rectified by an increase in our council tax, year on year.
I am an advocate for protecting open spaces, questioning poor planning decisions and supporting the community.

Barrie Malpas (Conservatives)
I have lived in Macclesfield for a number of years, previously, my wife and I made our home in Bollington for 43 years.
Now retired, I spent my career in aircraft design and manufacture, but now have the time and energy to be able to give something back to the community.
Locally, I am involved with the Bollington Well-Dressing Festival, and I am a member of the
Macclesfield Activity In Retirement (AIR) group, as well as a nearby walking group.
My motivation in standing for Cheshire East Council is because Labour have failed our town and we need a change of direction and councillors who really stand up for a better deal for Macclesfield from Cheshire East Council.
So Cheshire remains proudly non-partisan and has provided the same opportunity to all parties and independent candidates.
