Local children’s charity, The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, has its amazing supporters to thank for raising a record breaking £40,000 at their 18th annual golf day which was held at The Mere Golf Resort & Spa on Thursday 3rd May.

29 teams had a fantastic day of golfing at the prestigious club followed by a fun prize-giving dinner in the evening hosted by the man behind The Mere Golf Resort & Spa, Mark Boler.

The corporate community came together to support the event to make it a huge success, with companies paying £100 each to become hole sponsors.

The day teed off with a hearty lunch in the club before the teams took to the course for an afternoon of golf. CAFT volunteers kept the golfers fed, watered and entertained throughout.

The golfers were kept entertained on the course by a number of fun competitions such as Nearest The Pin, On The Green In One and The Longest Drive.

There was also the opportunity to take on PGA professionals in Beat The Pro – the winner of which (Adrian Alves) went away a lesson plus a round of golf with the Mere Golf Academy.

After a wonderful afternoon of play, Mark Boler hosted the dinner which included music from Jennie Sawdon, a raffle and auctions.

Auction highlights included a rugby package for Sale Sharks, a signed first team shirt from Manchester United and a signed Raheem Sterling shirt from rivals Manchester City.

There were several Four Balls at local courses and an exciting Land Rover Experience Day.

The focus of the evening was the prize-giving which saw the team from Complete Roofing Systems scooping the first prize, including former England International Rugby League player Paul Sculthorpe.

Each team member walked away with a luxury watch and a bottle of bubbly.

Events organiser at CAFT, Pippa Watton commented: “This was such a fantastic day, and the sun actually made an appearance this year! The teams were in fine spirits and all enjoyed playing this beautiful course.

“We were blown away to raise a record breaking amount this year, with profits ensuring we can provide free holidays at The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, bringing fun and laughter to thousands of young children in need this year.

“We really can’t thank our sponsors and golfers enough for making this possible.”

She added: “The money raised will help us to provide life-changing holidays for countless terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children this year.  A fantastic achievement for all concerned.”
