The frontage of a restaurant in Handforth has collapsed, unexpectedly, resulting in it being closed for the foreseeable future.
Guiliano – situated on Wilmslow Road in the centre of Handforth – suffered the damage this afternoon and the area surrounding it had to be made safe by emergency services.
A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said: “Unfortunately due to building work we are going to be closed from tonight till further notice.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience.”
Earlier, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “Officers are currently dealing with an incident at Giuliano’s in Handforth.
“Part of the building has collapsed. At this time we do not believe anyone has been injured.”
They added: “Please do not travel to the area unnecessarily as emergency workers are trying to make the scene safe.”
The cause of the collapse is unknown, but the front of the building is now surrounded by scaffolding and workers have begun clearing the debris from the pavement outside.
