Alderley Edge diner to close after more than a decade in business

The Aldeli diner in Alderley Edge will be closing today (30th October) after more than decade in business.

In a post on its social media pages, owner Ilana Higham said the business has failed to keep up with the rising cost of bills and will soon be unable to meet overheads.

She said she’d started out with no experience in the hospitality industry and was heartbroken to be closing.

Her family previously operated a used car showroom from the same site on Wilmslow Road in Alderley Edge prior to it being opened as a diner.

Ilana Higham said: “After 11 wonderful years, we are heartbroken at having to write this post; sadly our life at Aldeli has come to the end of the road and today will be our last day of trading.”

She added: “With the economic climate as it is, impending astronomical rates and the food costs at such an all time high we are sadly forced to close our doors as we feel we are unable to go on in such uncertain times in the hospitality industry.

“We have had a fantastic run, and can’t even begin to thank our wonderful customers along the way.”

She reflected on some of the events that have been hosted there over the years, saying she’ll miss the people they’ve met over that time.

She said: “We have made friends for life, watched babies grow up over the years and we want you to know how thoroughly grateful we are to you all for all your continued support, especially in the last few years when business has been at its hardest.

“From car meet ups, Halloween parties, Santa visits, crazy after school shenanigans, ice cream parties, endless barbecues and of course our beloved Mavericks cycling Sundays (which have since spread to a Friday slackers group and Robbo’s Saturday ride) we have had a blast.

“For my wonderful staff, present and past, I couldn’t have done it without you, thank you for your endless hard work and helping me on our Aldeli journey.

“To my beloved friends, family and wonderful husband, thank you for all your support over the years, you have always been there and all I can I hope is that I have fed you all well with enough bagels and cakes to last a lifetime.

“To my dad, partner and best friend, who gave me this fantastic opportunity 11 years ago to start a business with our only experience in eating food rather than making it, I look forward to our next project and what we can achieve together in the future.”

Ilana concluded: “This absolutely won’t be the end or goodbye from us, merely a change of chapter and the start of something new.

“Thank you all so so much from the bottom of my heart for the best 11 years.”

She didn’t say whether her or her family would be opening a new business at the Tower Garage site or what their next venture might be.

There was also no information given about the future of the petrol station next door which is also run by the Higham family.
