People are being urged to act now if they want to stand as a candidate in May’s local elections.

Anyone wishing to stand has until 4pm on Tuesday 4th April to register their nomination with the returning officer at Cheshire East Council.

Would-be candidates are urged to deliver their nomination papers as soon as possible – and not to leave it too late.

Cheshire East Council returning officer Lorraine O’Donnell said: “I would encourage people, who wish to stand in the local elections, to submit their completed forms as soon as possible – to avoid missing the deadline set by law.

“Submitting paperwork well in advance of the deadline will help ensure that, if there are any issues with the required paperwork, these can hopefully be resolved before the 4pm deadline on 4th April.”

The deadline for the withdrawal of any nominations is also 4pm on 4th April.

Completed nominations must be hand delivered to the council’s Westfields Offices on Middlewich Road in Sandbach – between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

The Electoral Commission website has valuable information about standing as a candidate.

Information about voting at these local elections is available at www.yourvotematters.co.uk.
