A view of medieval Congleton

Congleton Town Council is encouraging members of the public to visit Congleton Library to view a diorama of medieval Congleton.

The three-dimensional model village will be on display until Saturday 24th September 2022 as part of Congleton Heritage and Antiques Festival.

The medieval masterpiece – created by local volunteer Jenny Unsworth for the town’s 750th Charter Year celebrations – was previously on display earlier in the summer during the ‘Behind Closed Doors’ exhibition at Congleton Town Hall.

Hundreds of school children and visitors were amazed by the hand crafted village, featuring Dane Bridge and more than 30 handmade buildings and houses, all full of busy tradespeople and artefacts.

Congleton town mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside said: “We are delighted the display will be resurrected again for even more Congletonians to appreciate.

“We are extremely grateful to Congleton Library for their support, the imagined village of a medieval Congleton in 1272  is rather large and will take up a lot of space at the library over the next two weeks.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for residents who missed if first time round, or those who were fortunate to see it before to revisit to fully appreciate the attention to detail.

“It’s one of those things, where something new jumps out at you each time you look at. Jenny’s vision, talent and passion for Congleton is outstanding – don’t miss it.”

Public viewing will coincide with library opening hours.

Admission is free of charge – and visitors are requested to be respectful of the exhibition (touching is not permitted due to its fragile and delicate nature).
