“A charming and heart-warming view of new love and purpose.”
Wilmslow’s Green Room Theatre is heralding the new year with their production of Ron Clarke’s play A Bench in the Shade.
It follows protagonists Annie and Paul who were engaged to be married many years ago and now live comfortably at the same retirement community, Seaside Heights Manor.
Annie is intrigued by the arrival of a new resident – Italian actor, Roberto.
Is this newcomer going to have an impact on her relationship with Paul? Fate intervenes and any potential new romance is impeded by news of the retirement home being sold.
A Bench in the Shade offers a perceptive view of ageing and companionship that will touch the hearts of young and old alike and deals affectionately with human connection, senior romance and community.
The cast comprises three seasoned Green Room actors – Annie is played by Cherrill Wyche, Paul is played by Richard Sails and Andy Neve is Roberto.
Directed by Dave Midgley, the play runs 26th-31st January 2026.
Evening performances start at 7.45pm and the Saturday matinee (31st January) starts at 2.30pm.
Tickets are available via the box office on Saturday mornings (11am-midday) at the Green Room Theatre on Chapel Lane in Wilmslow or via the Green Room website: www.greenroomwilmslow.org.uk
