SUSO offering small steps to a brighter future

SUSO (Speaking Up Speaking Out) in Macclesfield is launching a new training programme to help adults with learning difficulties and additional needs to take steps towards employment.

The SUSO Skills Shop aims to give people the skills and experience they need to help move them closer to employment or further opportunities.

Held part-time over 10 weeks, the friendly and informal classroom-based sessions will help boost participant’s confidence and support them meet their aspirations by providing training which is tailored to their needs.

After they have completed the SUSO Skills Shop, they will have the opportunity of 6 weeks part-time unpaid work experience with a variety of carefully matched organisations.

 

Some of the topics covered at the SUSO Skills Shop will include:

• Confidence – meet new people, learn listening skills, share opinions and ideas

• Be work ready – understanding the importance of good time-keeping, independent travel, etc

• Improve health and wellbeing through self-care

• Develop useful practical skills

• Get work experience

 

The SUSO Skills Shop, based in Macclesfield town centre, is free to any adults (aged 25-60) in Cheshire East with learning disabilities and/or additional needs who are not in paid employment or currently seeking work.

The first SUSO Skills Shop starts in September with further sessions throughout the subsequent 12 months.
