Congleton Town Council is looking for a new mayor’s cadet for the civic year 2023-2024.
The successful candidate will be chosen from one of the town’s uniformed youth groups, and nominations are open until 27th April 2023.
Each year a new mayor’s cadet is recruited from the various youth organisations in Congleton.
Current town mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside said: “It is a prestigious and challenging role which young people have enjoyed over the past decade.
“The town mayor’s cadet is a high profile appointment and as such it is expected that the candidate should be of the highest standard with good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a wide range of people.
“Nominations should normally be a senior cadet aged 14-18 during the term of their appointment.”
In previous years, cadets have been members of the Air Training Corps, fire brigade, Scouts and Guides.
Nominations can be submitted by any uniformed group which a young person attends.
However, groups are asked to only nominate one outstanding candidate who is keen to take on the role and who has agreed to be nominated.
The town council has also written to the youth groups to request nominations.
Further information on the cadet scheme can be found on the town council’s website.
The cadet for the new civic year will be appointed during an official ceremony at Congleton Town Hall on 24th May 2023.
They will have the opportunity to attend a number of events with the mayor and gain valuable experience whilst in post.
Key engagements will include:
• Mayor making ceremony – 24th May 2023
• Mayor’s civic service and parade – 2nd July 2023
• Remembrance service – 12th November 2023
• Christmas lights switch on – 24th November 2023
