A community-run repair cafe is returning to Wilmslow this weekend to help people fix their broken possessions.
Whether it’s furniture, clothing, jewellery or electricals – all repairs are carried out free of charge, but donations are gratefully received.
The repair cafe is run by Transition Wilmslow and it’s hosted three times per year.
It alternates between the church halls of Wilmslow URC on Chapel Lane in Wilmslow and St Chad’s Church on Wilmslow Road in Handforth.
Even if people don’t have anything for repair, they are welcome to head along for free coffee and homemade cake and to watch the repairers at work.
Spokesperson Ken Wallace said: “We offer repairs in electricals, furniture and woodwork, textiles and clothing, jewellery, bikes and general repairs – and also offer computer advice.
“We don’t charge for repairs or refreshments, but donations are welcome. We offer hot and cold drinks and cake – lots of cake!”
He added: “In recent months we have had access to a calculation which allows us to estimate the amount of CO2 saved when repairs are completed rather than taking to landfill.
“To this end, we weigh each item that has completed repair.
“During 2022, we were able to save approximately 1.75 tonnes of CO2 from going to landfill by completing repairs on items.”
The next repair cafe takes place this Saturday (4th March) at Wilmslow URC on Chapel Lane (SK9 1PR).
The cafe runs 10am-1pm, with last repairs accepted at 12.30pm.
After that it will be at St Chad’s in Handforth on Saturday 1st July, followed by a return to Wilmslow URC on Saturday 4th November.
Ken added that the repair cafe is always looking to recruit more volunteer repairers and helpers.
