Residents of a Staffordshire town are being urged to “shop local” on Small Business Saturday to support independent businesses.
Taking place on 6th December, the day is a national initiative which aims to encourage shoppers to back their local communities during an important trading period for many retailers and hospitality firms.
In Tamworth, the campaign is being backed by the borough council which is offering free parking in all council-run car parks.
The authority is also encouraging people to visit the town’s popular market, Bert and Gerts craft market in Ankerside, independent retail stores, local artists and crafters, and local food and drink venues.
“Supporting our town centre remains a priority,” said Cllr Nova Arkney, portfolio holder for infrastructure and the local economy.
“By waiving parking charges on this key shopping day, we hope to boost trade, attract more visitors and give people the opportunity to enjoy Tamworth’s fantastic festive atmosphere.”
Free parking will also available in all council car parks on 13th and 20th December to make it easier for people to visit and shop local in the lead up to Christmas.
“Small Business Saturday has always been well supported here, and we’re hoping 2025 will be our busiest and most successful yet,” Cllr Arkeny added.
Tamworth Borough Council is also offering a full programme of festive events and activities throughout December – including Santa shows, variety performances, festive films and Christmas party night extravaganzas.
Tamworth Castle is also open on Small Business Saturday, offering families the chance to experience the magical Santa’s Christmas Castle event.
Please note the free parking offer only applies to Tamworth Borough Council car parks.
